Privacy policy

This policy explains what Bike Logger stores about you and your bikes, who else processes it, and how to get it back or have it deleted. It is written to be read, not to be survived.
Who we are

What we store
Your account. Your email address, your name, a hashed password, your chosen language, your chosen date format, and how often you want wear-alert emails.
Your bikes. Title, type, brand, serial number, weight, the date you acquired it, the odometer reading, and a cover photo if you add one.
Your parts and services. Part names, manufacturers, wear limits, the distances we calculate from your odometer, service dates, your notes, and any photos you attach.
Documents you upload. Receipts, manuals and warranty papers, up to 150 MB per account.
Strava, only if you connect it. An access token and a refresh token, your Strava athlete id and name, and the bikes in your Strava gear together with the distance Strava holds for each one. We do not read your rides, your routes or your times, and we never write anything back to Strava.
Payment. Handled by Stripe. We hold a customer reference and the state of your subscription. We never see or store your card number.
Usage. Which pages get opened and which features get used, through PostHog and Google Analytics, so we can tell what is worth building next.
Why we store it
To run your logbook and give you the service you signed up for, which is the contract between us. To take payment, which is the same contract and a legal obligation for our bookkeeping. To understand how the product is used and improve it, which is our legitimate interest, and where the law requires consent for that, we ask for it.
We do not sell your data, and we do not use it to advertise to you.
Who else processes it
- Stripe takes payments and holds your card details.
- Strava provides the bikes and distances you choose to connect, under Strava's own terms.
- Resend delivers our email.
- Laravel Cloud hosts the application and stores your uploaded files.
- PostHog and Google Analytics record usage.
- Mailchimp sends our newsletter, if you sign up for it.
Some of these process data outside the European Economic Area. Where they do, they are bound by the safeguards European law requires for such transfers.
How long we keep it
For as long as your account exists.
If your subscription or trial ends, your logbook is locked rather than deleted, and your data is kept for 12 months so you can pick up where you left off. We will email you before that period runs out. After it, the account and everything in it is deleted, including uploaded files.
You can ask us to delete your account at any point, and you do not have to wait for that window.
Your rights
You can ask to see the data we hold, correct it, delete it, receive a copy in a portable form, restrict what we do with it, object to processing based on our legitimate interest, and withdraw consent you have given. Write to go@bike-logger.com and we will answer within a month.
If you think we have handled your data badly, you can complain to the Belgian Data Protection Authority, the Gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit, Drukpersstraat 35, 1000 Brussels.
Cookies and analytics
We use cookies to keep you signed in and to keep the site working. Those are necessary and cannot be switched off without breaking the service.
We also use PostHog and Google Analytics to measure usage. You can refuse these without losing anything.
Changes
When this policy changes we update the date at the top. If a change matters to you, we will say so by email rather than hoping you check.
